The Yorkshire Dales is one of England’s most celebrated upland landscapes, known for its wide skies, limestone scenery, open moorland and deeply cut valleys shaped by farming and weather over centuries. Spanning a broad area of North Yorkshire and beyond, it offers a strong sense of space and quiet, with high fells, stone-walled fields and long views that make it a classic rail-linked destination for walking, touring and landscape appreciation.

The artwork presents a sweeping upland panorama of Ingleborough and Whernside at dawn, using the slanting early light to define the contours of the fells and the broad valley floor below. Warm gold tones across the foreground slope contrast with the cooler blues and violets of the distant ridgelines, while the expansive sky reinforces the poster’s sense of openness and distance. The composition emphasises scale, stillness and elevation, with the rolling forms of the Dales unfolding in layered bands toward the horizon.
